Provide information to Police for effective security – FG to Nigerians

The federal government has urged Nigerians to provide needed information and other forms of collaboration to the Nigeria Police Force, to enable officers secure the lives and property of the citizens.

This is even as it has identified grassroots security initiatives and the welfare of Police officers as important factors in achieving a well-secured nation.

The Minister of State for Police Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim said this in Umuahia on Thursday while declaring open a stakeholders’ town hall meeting, themed “Community Policing Building A Safer Nigeria Together”.

The Minister said modern initiatives and actions were being taken by the federal government to ensure the welfare of Policemen in Nigeria in line with the six-point frameworks designed by her ministry to strengthen the Force.

Suleiman-Ibrahim who called for collaborative security responsibilities by Nigerians, assured that upgrading of Police barracks, Police training schools and other physical infrastructure are core focus of her ministry.

She observed that the strategic transit route of Abia State entails that more robust measures should be applied to checkmate illegal activities such as smuggling but commended the efforts of the state government and Police Community Relations Committee, PCRC, in ensuring the security of the state.

“The objective of this town hall meeting is to foster an open and transparent dialogue between the Ministry of Police Affairs and citizens across the selected states, provide detailed information on current and planned reforms within the Nigeria Police to enhance citizen understanding”.

In his speech, Abia State Governor, Alex Otti submitted that the security of lives and property is the duty of all Nigerians, saying that his administration has been providing the necessary support to the Police and other security agencies in the fight against criminals.

Meanwhile, the Police Clinic and Police officers’ children’s school in Umuahia were also commissioned by the Minister.
