Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, has assured Lagosians that the flash flood being witnessed due to the rain will subside soon.
Wahab gave this assurance while reacting to a post on X about the Iyana-Oworo, Olopo Meji area, heading to the Third Mainland Bridge, on Wednesday morning, which indicated that the area had been taken over by flood as a result of the incessant rain.
An X user who tweets anonymously as #JayNaijaTv shared a video of the flooded area with the caption, “Iyana-Oworo, Olopo Meji area heading to 3rd Mainland Bridge this morning is completely flooded, causing long traffic that extends to Alapere.”
However, in his reaction, Wahab said: “The flash flood at Olopo Meji, due to heavy rain and high lagoon levels, will subside in 1-2 hours.”
Meanwhile, Lagosians woke up to a very serious downpour on Wednesday morning as it rained heavily in different areas of the state.
The rain, which started in the middle of the night, refused to abate, preventing workers and students from leaving their homes.
It was the same story in areas like Oshodi, Ikotun, Bariga, Surulere, and Iyana Ipaja on the Mainland, with those on the Island also not spared.
A check on social media, especially X, showed that a lot of people in Lagos State felt the impact of the heavy downpour, with some complaining of flooding.
