Recall Ndume As Senate Chief Whip Now – Protesters Urge Senate

1 month ago 48

There were protests today in the streets of Abuja by individuals from Borno South calling for the reinstatement of Mohammed Ali Ndume as the Chief Whip of the Senate.

Naija News reports that the lawmaker representing Borno South senatorial district at the national assembly was ousted from his position following his critical remarks towards the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

This decision was made in response to a letter sent to the Senate by the national leadership of his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Furthermore, he lost his role as the Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations.

In a reversal of events, Senator Tahir Monguno (APC, Borno North) was appointed as the new Chief Whip.

However, the protesters, represented by the Borno South Development Association, who invaded the Unity Fountain in Abuja today, petitioned Senate President Godswill Akpabio to restore Ndume to his position.

According to Daily Trust, the leader of the protesters, Mohammed Ibrahim Biu, while addressing reporters in Abuja, characterized Ndume as an active and effective Senator who has dedicated his service to the people and should not be penalized for his honest opinions.

He argued that Ndume’s dismissal as Chief Whip was detrimental not only to Borno South but also to Nigeria as a whole, emphasizing the need for justice to be served.
