The Senator representing Abia North at the National Assembly, Orji Kalu, has appealed to Nigerians to remain patient amidst the reforms introduced by the current administration.
While acknowledging the accompanying hardships, Kalu assured that normalcy would eventually return.
Speaking in Abiriba, Ohafia LGA, on Friday during the reception of two former Peoples Democratic Party chieftains, Kelvin Jumbo and Ikechi Anya, into the All Progressives Congress, Kalu said, “Embarking on reforms is difficult. Reforms are very difficult. When doing reforms, things are always difficult.
“There is no reform that doesn’t come with hardship, but the mark of good leadership is the ability to take decisions on behalf of the people.
“I know that our people are hungry, I know that the people at the market are suffering, I know that people on the streets are suffering. Just wait. Give us a few more years, you will see. Things will come back to normal because God will listen to our prayers. We are people of God.”
Kalu emphasized the strength of the APC, saying, “We are a strong party. We are going to take back our honour, not only here, but in every other place in Abia State and Enugu and Anambra states. We are not going to be alone. We must join other states to be APC. We are not going to be left behind. We are not going to allow anybody to deceive us or tell us what we would not hear.
“We are going to work for the common good of our people, for the wellbeing of everybody—family, the security agencies, and the common people.” He expressed confidence that the party will achieve victory at all levels in the 2027 elections.
Calling for support for the new members, Kalu said, “With Kelvin, there is going to be a strong partnership to bring democracy dividends to the people. Support him, support our party, support everything about APC. The record of our party is very clear.
“We are the largest party in Nigeria. There is no political party that will beat us. They are scattered, and we have what it takes to sustain power and give back power to the people. We are appealing to all to support APC.”
Earlier, the APC State Chairman, Kingsley Ononogbu, highlighted mistrust as one of the reasons the party lost elections in 2023.
Ononogbu commended the decampees for their decision to join the APC, stating, “You did the right thing. Since after elections, the desired unity has been achieved, mostly through the efforts of Sen. Kalu.”
The APC Chairman in Ohafia LGA, Emma Nwosu, added, “We are here for reconciliation as initiated by our Chairman. We are working towards a party that will win elections. APC is strong and united in Ohafia LGA.”
Other party chieftains, including George Nnanna Kalu, Prince Obasi Uba, Mrs. Ngozi Ada Ogbuagu, Nnenna Obewu Onwuka, Otue Orji Kalu, Hon. Abacha Ojisi Iro, High Chief Uche Ogboso, and Edward Okocha, reiterated the party’s openness to new members.
They emphasised that the influence of the new members would strengthen the party ahead of the 2027 elections, urging members to remain steadfast and committed to the party’s goals.
