Nigerian music sensation, Divine Ikubor, widely known as Rema, has made a generous donation of ₦150 million to Christ Embassy Church in Benin City, Edo State.
Naija News reports that this act of philanthropy occurred during Rema’s visit to Edo State, where he participated in the Edo@33 celebration.
His visit included the groundbreaking ceremony for the 6,000-capacity Edo Dome and a musical performance at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, all organized by the state government.
Rema’s donation was made to the Edo Regional Headquarters of Christ Embassy, located on Erediauwa Street off Ekenwa Road.
He explained that the donation was a gesture of gratitude for the church’s unwavering support for his family during a challenging period in his childhood.
While attending a thanksgiving service at the church, Rema shared how the church played a pivotal role in his family’s life following the loss of his father when he was just eight years old.
Rema said: “I am not here to give myself any form of accolades or glory but to give to God the glory. And, I felt it was important to give back to the church that has embraced me, prayed for me and kept me very consistent with my spirit.
“When I was eight years old when I lost my dad, we felt very lost and abandoned.
“All that we had were taken from us and we felt alone, and I remember at the time Pastor Joy and Pastor Thomas, the pastors of this church; they opened a shop for my mum, and that was what she managed to take care of and feed us.”
In appreciation for the church’s kindness, Rema pledged ₦150 million in total donations. He committed ₦40 million to the church’s infrastructural development, ₦20 million to support the Rhapsody of Realities publication, and ₦25 million to the teen church, which he was a part of growing up.
Additionally, Rema announced a pledge of ₦20 million to assist widows in the church, further demonstrating his commitment to giving back to the community that supported him in his youth.
