Nigerian musicians Rema and Shallipopi have released a new song titled ‘Benin Boys‘. This was shared by Rema on his ‘X’ page, scheduled for midnight. Rema, who recently participated in Paris Fashion Week, teamed up with fellow Benin indigene Shallipopi in what seems to be paying homage to their roots.
The track connects the duo to Benin City and their desire to highlight its significance. The collaboration between Rema and Shallipopi celebrates their roots and sets a high bar for future releases in the Afrobeat genre.
Recall, on June 18, Rema earned a pair of ASCAP London Music Awards: Song of the Year and Top Streaming Song, both for “Calm Down”, with the music reaching No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and spending a record-setting 58 weeks atop the U.S. Afrobeats Songs.

The Afrobeats track also reached No. 1 on the all-genre Radio Songs chart, making history for a song by an African lead artist. “Calm Down” served as the second single from Rave & Roses, Rema’s debut studio album, which reached No. 81 on the Billboard 200 and No. 2 on World Albums.
