Reps Back Dangiwa’s N500bn Budgetary Allocation Request

To overcome the obstacles confronting the housing sector, the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Housing and Urban Habitats, Hon. Abdulmumin Jubrin has expressed the support of his committee to the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Architect Ahmed Musa Dangiwa’s proposal for an annual N500 billion allocation to support the Renewed Hope Cities and Estates programme.

Jibrin who was speaking yesterday during his committee’s oversight visit to the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, also called for immediate regulatory waivers to facilitate the efficient delivery of housing as well as tackle the challenges impeding the sector.

While calling for a collaborative effort between the public and private sectors to tackle housing deficit the law maker said.

“We will have to support the housing ministry to be able to get a certain exemption, presidential waiver. Otherwise, they will not be able to move as quickly as possible and as efficiently as they should move, looking at milestones, timelines, and the rest to deliver on what they are supposed to deliver.

“I believe it is critical, honourable colleagues, that we focus very urgently on that and support the ministry to get waivers on some of these regulatory issues that might become a challenge for them to be able to unleash the potentials of the sector’’.

Earlier, in his address, the minister of housing highlighted the critical issues affecting the Nigeria’s housing sector and outlined comprehensive strategies to address them.

Dangiwa, also pointed out that the outdated Land Use Act needs urgent review, as 97 per cent of land remains unregistered, and called for the support of the committee to deliver on his mandate.
