The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has voiced his concern regarding the recent flooding in the Sabon Gari Local Government Area of Kaduna State, characterizing the event as a tragedy.

The flooding, which took place on Monday in the Kogin Mata and Tudun Muntsira, Chikaji regions of Sabon Gari, resulted from intense rainfall.

Naija News reports that this inundation led to considerable property damage and forced many residents to evacuate their homes.

In a statement released by his media aide, Musa Krishi, on Tuesday, Abbas extended his condolences to the victims of the flood and expressed his sorrow that such a catastrophic event occurred at a time when individuals are working hard to maintain their livelihoods.

The lawmaker called for urgent intervention to relieve those affected and urged residents to remain calm as the government works to alleviate their suffering.

“Specifically, the Speaker appealed to the National Emergency Management Agency and the State Emergency Management Agency to swiftly assist the flood victims during this critical period,” the statement added.

Speaker Abbas urged residents in the affected and neighbouring regions to implement preventive measures and adhere to the advice provided by relevant authorities concerning flood risks.

Furthermore, he emphasized the necessity for collaborative efforts to address the wider challenge of flooding throughout the nation.
