The football world is still recovering from the effects of the tireless Manchester City game against Arsenal on Sunday.

The end-to-end game served some interesting spectacles for the neutral fan. John Stones rescued a point for the champions right at the death despite some gallant defending from Arsenal.

The Gunners had been reduced to 10 men on the stroke of halftime when Leandro Trossard picked up a second yellow card.

Why Leandro Trossard was sent off vs Manchester City

The Belgian received his first booking of the night when he tried to stop a Manchester City counterattack in the 34th minute. Trossard was then sent off after he kicked the ball away after the whistle had gone for a Manchester City free-kick.

Arsenal's protests fell on deaf ears, and they were forced to play the rest of the game with a man's disadvantage. Trossard has insisted he didn't hear the referee's whistle when he booted the ball upfield, as reported by Just Arsenal.

How Trossard has avoided Premier League ban

Despite the red card, Mikel Arteta will have his winger available for Arsenal's next Premier League game. The Gunners will welcome Leicester City at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.

Premier League rules on cards and suspensions

The Premier League rules on cards dictate that a red card coming from two yellow cards will result in an automatic one-match suspension. The suspension can be served in a domestic cup competition, as the Athletic reports.

Arsenal play Bolton in the third round of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday evening. Trossard will, therefore, miss this tie and return for the Foxes' visit on Saturday.

Premier League rules on yellow card suspensions

The competition-specific suspensions come from accumulated yellow cards. If a player receives five yellow cards in the first 19 games of the Premier League season, he will be suspended for one game in the league. These suspensions are not transferrable and thus can't be served in a Carabao or FA Cup tie.

As per Premier League rules, 10 yellow cards in the first 32 games of the season attract a two-game suspension.

Do they apply in UEFA competitions?

Red and yellow cards in UEFA competitions do not relate in any way to the league and domestic cups. This means that a red card in a UEFA competition cannot be served in a league game.

Trossard's availability for the Leicester game will be music to Arteta's ears, who is still without his captain, Martin Odegaard.

Why Doku wasn't penalised for same offence as Trossard's

At the same time, Legit.ng has explained why Trossard was sent off, yet Doku wasn't booked for a similar offence.

Arsenal fans were up in arms after Doku wasn't penalised for kicking the ball away, but Trossard received a second yellow card minutes later.
