The Glorious Destiny Family Church, Port Harcourt, yesterday honoured the Rivers State Correspondent of LEADERSHIP Newspaper, Anayo Onukwugha and 19 other members of the church for their commitment towards the promotion of the work of God.

Amongst those honoured were the president of Destiny Men’s Fellowship, Deacon Victor Frederick People and the president of Daughters of Destiny, Deaconess Onyinyechi Uchenna.

Speaking during the presentation of the awards, lead pastor of the Church, Pastor Akeem Idoniboye, said the gesture was to appreciate some members of the church who have remained committed to the growth of the church.

Idoniboye, however said the award ceremony would be an annual event of the church so that more members could be recognised.

Preaching a sermon on the topic: “Understanding Followership”, a guest preacher, Pastor Kelly Young, said some church members may be close to their pastors, but are not their followers.

Young said: “Until we become followers, there are certain graces we can’t access. So, it is very important that you understand that it is not every member of the church that is follower.

“Some members are very close to their pastor but, they are not his followers. Proximity is not followership.”
