The people of Ikuru Town in Andoni Local Government Area of Rivers State have called on the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and the Director-General of the Department of State Services, Mr Adeola Ajayi, to direct a thorough investigation into the sudden disappearance of a National Youth Service Corps member, identified as Yahaya Farouk Umar.

Umar was a corps member undergoing his primary assignment at a secondary school in Ikuru Town, Andoni LGA of the state.

In late October, the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria raised the alarm over Umar’s whereabouts, stating that he went missing on Monday, October 14, 2024.

In a statement issued in Port Harcourt, it was noted that the youth corps member had later secured a part-time job with a Chinese firm, LDM Mining Company Limited, operating in the area.

The community alleged that some individuals were attempting to undermine the investigation by influencing the security officials involved in the case.

Expressing their concern, they said the incident had sent shock waves through the community and appealed to the heads of the above security operatives to intervene and ensure justice is done.

The statement, signed by the Secretary of Ikuru Town Council, Friday Paul Amamino, was made available to newsmen in Port Harcourt.

The people also alleged that some individuals were attempting to use the unfortunate incident to settle political scores by “concealing the truth, changing the narrative, diverting attention, misleading the unsuspecting public, and impeding justice,” as well as implicating perceived opponents in the matter.

The community vowed to resist any attempt by individuals, regardless of their social status, to undermine the process of a thorough investigation to secure justice for Mr Yahaya Farouk Umar.
