Romelu Lukaku Joins Napoli, Al-Ahli, Chelsea Continue Battle For Osimhen

Former Italian Serie A champions Napoli have completed the signing of Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea for a fee of £30 million.

This move was heavily influenced by Napoli’s manager, Antonio Conte, who previously worked with Romelu Lukaku during their time together at Inter Milan from 2019 to 2021, where the striker delivered outstanding performances.

After rejoining Chelsea in 2021 for a substantial sum of £97.5 million, Lukaku spent the last two seasons on loan in Italy, first with Inter and then with Roma.

During his time with Inter under Conte’s guidance, Lukaku played a pivotal role in the team’s Serie A victory in 2021, contributing an impressive 24 league goals. This remarkable form prompted Chelsea to secure his services. Unfortunately, he couldn’t shine at Stamford Bridge.

Lukaku’s departure from Chelsea has allowed the club to relieve themselves of the significant financial burden of his £350,000-a-week wages. He has been earning the said amount even though he hasn’t played for The Blues since May 2022.

While Lukaku’s future has been secured, Chelsea will now focus on securing a deal with Victor Osimhen who is pushing to leave Napoli this summer.

Negotiations are currently underway, with Chelsea and Al-Ahli both vying for the signature of the 25-year-old Nigerian striker.

Chelsea is reportedly in talks with Osimhen regarding his salary and is considering offering a loan deal with an obligation to buy.

On the other hand, Al-Ahli has put forward an enticing offer of €25-30 million in annual net salary until 2028, with their management team engaging in discussions in Italy to finalize the deal with Osimhen.
