Rotary Club distributes delivery packs, medical consumables to boost maternal, child health

As part of efforts to promote maternal and child health in communities, the Rotary Club of Maryland, Lagos, distributed essential delivery packs, insecticide-treated nets, and medical consumables to pregnant women, nursing mothers at the Wasimi Primary Healthcare Centre.

   
The club’s maternal and and child health project was aimed at alleviating some of the financial burdens faced by pregnant women and nursing mothers in the community.
 
Speaking on the initiative, the President of the Rotary Club of Maryland, Olalekan Olubajo, highlighted the dire need for such interventions in the current economic climate. 
 
“We reached out to 20 pregnant women in this Wasimi community by providing them with essential delivery packs and insecticide-treated nets to help protect them and their unborn children from malaria. We also distributed sets of drugs to nursing mothers and donated vital medical consumables, including vitamins B, C, and multivitamins, to the Primary Healthcare Centre,” he said.
 
He emphasised the importance of proper healthcare during pregnancy and encouraged the women to utilise government healthcare facilities rather than resorting to traditional birth attendants. 

Olubajo reaffirmed the club’s commitment to sustainability in its projects, assuring that the club would continue to support the women and the healthcare centre. 
 
“Sustainability is key for us. We will keep visiting the hospital to assess where we can offer more help, ensuring that these women have access to the care and resources they need,” he said.
 
The Chairperson of the Maternal and Child Health Project, Olori Olugbile, said the initiative aimed to dispel misconceptions and ensure safer deliveries. 
According to her, every year, the club supports pregnant women by encouraging them to attend government hospitals for delivery as well as educate them on what to eat during pregnancy, the drugs to take or avoid, to held them ensure the health of both mother and baby.
 
The Officer-in-Charge of Wasimi Primary Healthcare Centre, Ojo Olabisi, expressed deep appreciation for the timely intervention, noting its impact on the women who often struggle with the rising costs of healthcare.
   
“Given the economic situation, this assistance is invaluable. The items donated will significantly reduce the financial burden on these women, especially those unable to afford the necessary delivery kits,” Olabisi remarked.
