Rotary Takes Maternal, Child Healthcare To FCT Women

Forty Rotary clubs under Rotary International District 9127 have launched Maternal and Child Health outreach at Dutse Baupma community in the Bwari area council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The district governor of Rotary International, District 9127, Mike Okachi Wanoshiri, led the clubs to the community yesterday, where childbirth kits, mosquito nets, and condoms were given to pregnant women and new mothers.

Wanoshiri, while calling on society to focus on maternal and child health said that the initiative was one of the seven focus areas of Rotary International, aiming to support mothers and children in their vital roles of bringing life into the world.

“We are here today to mark one of the seven areas of focus of the Rotary Program called Maternal and Child Health. We have all that is used for childbirth birth kits, mosquito nets, and condoms for pregnant women and new mothers, “ he said.

Dame Princess Joy Okoro of the Rotary Club of Maitama, Abuja and the district governor-elect emphasised the importance of reaching out to rural communities like Dutse Baupma and the Dutse Alhaji health facility.

Lovina Okorn-Ntui, the district chair of maternal and child health, emphasised that bridging the gap in healthcare access is a key priority for Rotary, influencing the choice of an indigent community for this project.

Dr Deborah Joshua, an officer in charge of the Dutse Alhaji Primary Health Care Centre, expressed joy over the Rotary Club’s donation.
