- Manchester United confirmed the hiring of Ruben Amorin as their new coach last week to replace Erik ten Hag
- Fans and pundits have been wondering what style the Sporting CP coach will implement when he starts his new job
- Ahead of his team's Champions League clash with Manchester City, Amorim briefly explained his style
Ruben Amorim will officially take charge at Manchester United on November 11 following his appointment as coach.
The Sporting CP boss will coach his last home game on Tuesday against Manchester United, the Red Devils' bitter rivals.
The young coach recently gave fans a sneak peek of what his tactics could look like at Old Trafford.
Man United's tactics under ten Hag
Erik ten Hag's Man United team won two trophies, but performances in the Premier League were not convincing. They suffered several humiliating defeats, and their loss to West Ham on October 27 saw the Dutchman sacked.
Ten Hag was expected to bring Ajax's free-flowing, possession-heavy style to Old Trafford but didn't because he felt he didn't have the players.
The Dutchman promised to make the Red Devils the best transition team in the league, but it never materialised.
Instead, his team pressed extremely high, but the back four struggled to defend a high line, leaving large swatches of space in the middle for opponents to exploit.
His style saw his team lose 7-0 to Liverpool, 4-0 to Crystal Palace and Brentford, and 3-0 at home to Bournemouth.
How will Man United play under Amorim?
Since joining the club in March 2020, the Portuguese coach has successfully employed a three-at-the-back system at Sporting.
That style has led Sporting to two Primeira Liga titles and helped end the club's 19-year title drought.
Fans expect the young coach to bring an identity to the team. He explained his tactics ahead of his side's clash with Man City.
"I want a team that can control the ball without fear, but we will see tomorrow," he said, per Manchester Evening News.He refused to elaborate on his style ahead of their Champions League clash, stressing that he is focused on his team's performance.
"I'm more worried about my players feeling comfortable to play football to win the game than showing something to the English fans and the English media...I understand there are going to be a lot of people judging my team and judging my work in only one game."It is unclear if his style will work at Man United.
Guardiola's message to Amorim
Legit.ng also reported that Pep Guardiola praised Ruben Amorim following his appointment, calling him a top-level coach.
Guardiola's Manchester City have faced Amorim's team a few times and will meet again on Tuesday in the Champions League.
