Newspread.ng is set to host the second edition of the Sabi Chef street food cooking competition to showcase the culinary talents of food vendors.
The event, which will be held in November in partnership with Maxx Connection Ltd, aims to uplift Nigeria’s vibrant street food culture and reward street food vendors with prizes, according to the organisers of the competition in a release.
Newspread.ng CEO, Shola Ewuola, said the idea behind the Sabi Chef competition was to enhance and support Nigeria’s street food vendors.
He said, “Street food is a huge part of our heritage, yet those who prepare it are often overlooked. This competition aims to change that by celebrating their creativity and resilience while educating them on safe food practices.”
He noted the need to break stereotypes around street food which he described as a vital part of Nigeria’s economy and culture to be celebrated for the joy it brings to people and the livelihoods it supports.
Sabi Chef brand ambassador, Chef Joy Ogbidi, emphasised that celebrating street food includes ensuring it is prepared in clean and healthy conditions.
“This competition will not only promote Nigerian street food but also educate vendors on best practices,” Ogbidi said.
