The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Monday, unveiled the rehabilitated Babafemi Dada link road and bridge, alongside the Yinka Folarin, Jamiu Lawal, and Shalom Academy road network in Alimosho Local Government Area.
Speaking at the unveiling, Sanwo-Olu described the project as a “testament to the enduring partnership between this government and the good people of Lagos State.”
He highlighted that the initiative aligned with his administration’s T.H.E.M.E.S.+ Agenda, emphasising traffic management and transportation as critical pillars for sustainable development.
“Before this intervention, connecting the Igando and Ayobo communities was a major challenge. Residents relied on a precarious wooden bridge built by a private individual which posed safety risks and required exorbitant fees,” Sanwo-Olu explained, describing the alternative – a lengthy 10-kilometre detour – as both impractical and inefficient.
The rehabilitated network now featured a reinforced concrete bridge and upgraded approach roads, replacing the wooden bridge and providing seamless connectivity between Igando, Ayobo, and surrounding areas.
“This infrastructure provides safe and efficient access while opening the axis for economic development, linking LASU-IBA and Condos roads,” the governor stated.
Calling for community involvement, he urged residents and Community Development Associations to take charge of the project.
“I want you to see this project as your own because you are the direct beneficiaries of its dividends. I see you as our partners in this journey of state-building, and we value your cooperation and feedback on this and other projects,” Sanwo-Olu said.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Infrastructure, Olufemi Daramola, said the network of roads would reduce driving time from one hour to 15 minutes.
He said, “Together, these efforts highlight the government’s dedication Through the THEMES+ Agenda, addressing critical infrastructure needs by providing structurally sound and aesthetically pleasing alternatives that meet the demands of Lagos of our dreams.”
