The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the United Nations Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA) have charged the Bauchi State Government with provision of an enabling space for youths to thrive through youth friendly policies.
While speaking during a programme to mark this year’s International Youth Day on Saturday, organised by SDGs Office in Bauchi in collaboration with UNFPA, the SDGs Director General, Lydia Shehu said that the Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) should direct their activities and programmes toward achieving the SDGs 17 goals.
She said that the government investment in youths is paramount to achieving the 2030 set goals. She added that this year’s theme: “From Clicks to Progress: Youth Digital Pathway for Sustainable Development “ is pertinent and timely when the youths are yearning for investment in their potential.
The UNFPA Coordinator in Bauchi, Deborah Tabara speaking on behalf of the Fund’s Resident Representative, Dr. Gifty Addico, said that young people have the power to make the physical and digital world more just, equal, peaceful and safe.
She said that: “As a generation born into a digital world, young people are adept at harnessing the vast opportunity that technology offers to build a more inclusive present and future.
“Young people have boundless potential to inspire and change our communities, state and the nation as a whole, as they are vibrant and full of ideas.
“On this International Youth Day, we celebrate the resilience, strength, and progress young people are making towards driving change in their communities and beyond. Their journey is one of overcoming obstacles and asserting their rights.”
The programme was attended by the commissioners for Budget and Multilateral Coordination, Education and Information, Aminu Hamayo; Dr. Jamila Dahiru, and Comrade Usman Danturaki and other government officials.
