US singer and actress Selena Gomez has responded to a call for her deportation after she posted an emotional video reacting to Trump’s ICE raids. The video, which has since been deleted, showed Gomez crying over the deportation of Mexicans, saying “I’m so sorry. All my people are getting attacked. The children, I don’t understand. I wish I could do something. I will try everything, I promise”.
The video sparked a reaction from former US senate candidate Sam Parker, who called for Gomez’s deportation, claiming she “picked illegals over America” due to her Mexican heritage. Parker tweeted, “Deport Selena Gomez. She picked illegals over America because she’s the 3rd gen descendent of Mexican illegals who received citizenship in the ’87 Amnesty”.
Gomez responded to the deportation call with a post on her Instagram story, saying “Oh Mr Parker, Mr Parker. Thanks for the laugh and the threat”. The singer, who has been an advocate for immigrants’ rights, previously spoke out about her family’s immigration story and the importance of showing empathy for those affected by deportation policies.
