Sell petrol for N350, groups beg FG

The Ijaw National Congress and the Northern Comrade Movement of Nigeria have called on President Bola Tinubu to slash the current petrol pump price to N350 per litre.

Both groups emphasised that lowering the fuel price would alleviate economic pressures and help stabilise various sectors affected by the recent increases.

This request came in response to the recent price hikes by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited, which had seen fuel prices rise to as high as N855, N918, and beyond, depending on the location.

In an interview with Saturday PUNCH, the INC National Publicity Secretary, Ezonebi Oyakemeagbegha, expressed concern over the rising fuel costs.

“The maximum pump price should not exceed N350 per litre,” Oyakemeagbegha said.

“The President must take urgent steps to bring the price down to this level. The recent increase has caused widespread hardship across the nation.”

Similarly, the Secretary-General of the NCMN, Ahmad Ashir, highlighted the broader implications of the fuel price hike.

“The increase in fuel prices is not only worsening the economic situation but also exacerbating insecurity in northern Nigeria,” he said.

“Many youths involved in transportation are being forced out of business due to these high costs, which can lead them to engage in criminal activities as an alternative.

“We urge the President to reduce the fuel price to a level that is affordable for the masses. N350 per litre will be manageable for most Nigerians.”
