GET RID OF MOISTURE
Moisture is one of the main reasons that attract all kinds of pests including termites into your home. Getting rid of excess moisture in your home will help in keeping termites at bay.

REMOVE FOOD SOURCES
Termites eat the cellulose in wood and other paper products. Don’t leave newspapers, cardboard boxes and other paper products in your home for extended periods of time. Be wary of using and leaving them around your property, as well.

PLACE INFECTED ITEMS IN THE SUN
If you find that termites are damaging a piece of furniture, place it in direct sunlight for at least three consecutive days. By keeping the infected furniture in the sun, the heat will kill the termites and remove moisture from the furniture preventing chances of re-infestation

SEAL GAPS CAUSED BY SETTLING
Different materials like wood, metal, concrete and PVC shrink and expand at different rates over time. This settling process may lead to cracks and gaps that create other points of entry for termites, you should seal these gaps when you notice them appearing.

MAINTAIN A DISTANCE BETWEEN SOIL AND WOOD
If you have a garden, ensure that there is some distance between the soil and wood. Most experts believe that at least an eighteen-inch distance is important. This will help discourage any attack from termites on the foundation of your home and the furniture.

USE BORATE ON WOOD BEFORE PRIMING OR PAINTING
Borate is one of the most popular termite repellents. You can spray borate on wood prior to priming and painting. It soaks into the wood and essentially prevents termites from attacking and nibbling on it.

GET REGULAR TERMITE INSPECTIONS
It’s always a good idea to have your home annually inspected by a trained termite professional. They should be able to locate points of access that aren’t immediately apparent or identify early signs of infestation in your home.
