AVOID STORING MILK IN THE REFRIGERATOR DOOR
To prolong your milk’s shelf life, make sure to avoid keeping it in the refrigerator door where the temperature is warmest and tends to fluctuate the most. Instead, store milk in the back and bottom portions of your fridge, where temperatures are typically the coldest.

STORE POTATOES IN A COOL, DRY PLACE AWAY FROM LIGHT
Have you ever bought a bag of potatoes only for them to start looking bad soon after? Chances are good that you’re keeping your potatoes in a high light area, which causes them to green faster. Prevent this by storing them in a cool, dark place.

DON’T STORE BREAD IN THE FRIDGE
Avoid storing bread in the fridge as it will spoil more quickly. Freezing bread is the best way to stop it from becoming moldy or stale, just make sure to freeze it in slices so it’s easy to defrost.

DON’T MIX UP ALL YOUR FRUITS AND VEGGIES
Some fruits and veggies (eg: apples, avocados, pears, peppers and tomatoes) emit a gas called ethylene which speeds up the ripening process. Storing them with produce that’s ethylene-sensitive (eg: cabbage, cucumbers, eggplants and spinach) can cause the latter to ripen and rot faster.

KEEP BANANAS SEPARATE
The gas that bananas give off as they ripen encourages other fruit nearby to ripen more quickly. Storing bananas away from other produce will help keep them from ripening and spoiling too fast.
