Shaibu threatens to expose Obaseki’s atrocities

Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu, has threatened to expose some of the atrocities of his former boss, Governor Godwin Obaseki, if he continues to insult him.

Shaibu who recently defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) made this known to journalists after Mass yesterday (Sunday) to begin the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria at Auchi, Edo State.

He said he had tolerated Governor Obaseki for over 15 months, but seems he has taken his silence for weakness.

He called for accountability and urged religious leaders to strip political officeholders, including Obaseki, of their unearned divine titles, condemning the title “God’s Servant Governor,” bestowed on Obaseki, describing it as unmerited and a misnomer.

Shaibu insisted that Obaseki’s actions were antithetical to the values of servant leadership, particularly his fighting the church, revoking poor citizens’ Certificates of Occupancy (C of O), demolishing homes of opposition politicians, fighting political leaders, disregarding the rule of law, depriving elected officials of their duties, denying citizens access to good roads, hiding federal government palliatives meant for the poor, embezzling public funds, inflating contracts, making unfulfilled promises, imposing governorship candidates on the people, and unleashing thugs on opposition parties.

Speaking further, Shaibu called on Christians, especially the leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Edo not to become complicit in the perpetuation of injustice, saying christendom must prove itself to be the last hope of every citizen, and avoid any political influence.
