Federal Capital Territory Senator, Ireti Kingibe, has described Nigeria’s female basketball team, D’Tigress, as Sheroes following their impressive outing in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
Senator Ireti said the D’Tigress performance at the Olympic Games was fearless and gallantry representing the true unyielding spirit of Nigerians.
Kingibe, who said on Friday, in a statement, on her X handle, described D’Tigress head coach, Rena Wakama, as a true boss lady who faces challenges and blazes without excuses.
The Labour Party (LP) lawmaker said, “I stand proud to celebrate our phenomenal squad of our SHEROES who have left us utterly awestruck and smiling with pride! Team D’Tigress, your fearless and gallant performance in the face of adversity represents our collective unyielding spirit.
“Your rise like phoenixes in the 4th quarter against the wealthiest and most heavily invested team was a masterclass in resilience. And right there at top, the indomitable Coach Wakama – a true lady boss who accepts no excuses and blazes trails with unprecedented achievements. African Champions, Olympic Quarterfinalists, Nigeria and Africa’s finest – you have earned our eternal love, admiration, and global respect!”
The FCT Senator said though D’Tigress may have lost to the United States team, their daring efforts and excellent performance in the competition worth every celebration.
“There is more to building a nation and changing our story a day at a time than just winning a game. Sometimes, it’s the effort, the daring to try in the midst of all the challenges. We must continue to celebrate the spirit of sportsmanship and yes our ladies did so much and they gave their all. That is worth Celebrating,” she added.
