The Kwara State Government has advised the youths to shun the abuse of drugs.
The government stated this with the aim of attaining a drug free society.
The Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRaman AbdulRazaq gave this advise on Tuesday at the commemoration of year 2024 United Nation’s Day against abuse of drugs and illicit drug trafficking, which held at the Banquet hall of Government House, Ilorin Kwara State,
The Governor who was represented by the State Commissioner for Health, Dr Amina Ahmed El-lmam highlighted the efforts of the state government in sensitising young citizens and community leaders, in order to discourage misuse of drugs in the state.
He thus encouraged all security personnel to join hands in sensitising the public, most especially the young ones, in order to build a healthy nation.
AbdulRazaq commended the Office of the Kwara First Lady, Ambassador Professor Olufolake Abdulrasaq, Kwara State Drugs Control Committee and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, for a notable achievement following the drastic reduction in drug abuse in the state.
He also commended the state Ministry of Health for the various programs embarked upon in sensitising the people to ensure proper information dissemination methods, especially at the various communities level through radio and television programmes tagged “Health gist” and so on.
In his remarks, the State Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Mohammed Ibrahim commended the leadership qualities of Mallam AbdulRasaq in his efforts at maintaining zero tolerance for abuse of drugs and illicit drugs trafficking in the state and Nigeria at large.
He assured of the Agency’s readiness to partner with the Kwara State Ministry of Health in the enlightenment programme, aimed at eradicating abuse of drugs.
Dignitaries at the event include: The permanent Secretary Kwara State Ministry of Health, Ajia Afusat Ibrahim, the Commander Federal Road Safety Corps, Controller Nigeria Immigration Services, Kwara State, the Nigeria Correctional Services, Nigerian Army 22 BBE, Kwara State, the Director Department of State Services, Commissioners for Health as well as Education and Human Capital Development, invited Schools amongst others.
