A massive sinkhole opened up on a soccer field in Alton's Gordon Moore Park, southern Illinois, swallowing a light pole, benches, and artificial turf.
No injuries were reported, but the hole, caused by surface subsidence from nearby underground limestone mining, measures at least 100 feet wide (30.5 metres) and up to 50 feet deep (15 metres).
The incident was captured on security video, showing the sudden collapse.
The park and surrounding roads are now closed indefinitely, and the mining company reported the event to the Mine Safety Health Administration.
