Sokoto gov promises border communities improved security

Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, has assured residents of his administration’s commitment to ensuring the early completion of the Military Armoured Division project in Illela Local Government Area of the state.

He was speaking when he visited the Illela Local Government in continuation of his thank-you visit to local government areas of the state on Monday.

According to the governor, the armoured division is part of efforts to improve security especially along the border areas and checkmate the activities of bandits ravaging some parts of the state.

He said arrangements are in top gear to pay compensation to people whose lands are being used for the armoured division site in the area.

“We are leaving no stone unturned in ensuring that this armoured division becomes a reality.

“In order to ensure the military presence in this part of the state, we have provided a temporary site for the military pending the completion of the permanent site.

“All these are part of efforts to fulfill the campaign promises we made to our people living in banditry affected parts of the state,” he said.

He also assured the people of the area of his administration’s readiness to execute roads projects, culverts, drainages, as well as installation of 260 solar-powered street lights in the area.

On the issue of reconnecting Illela with the national grid, Aliyu said work has reached an advanced stage, covering more than four out of the eight local government areas of Sokoto east.

The governor also visited Gada, Gwadabawa and Kware Local Governments, where he assured those communities of more developmental projects such as asphalted roads, feeder roads, solar- powered street lights, motorised boreholes, renovation of Jumuat mosques as well as the general improvement in security.

Earlier, the All Progressives Congress leader in the state, Sen. Aliyu Wamakko, thanked all the visited communities for their support at all times and assured them the present administration will not let them down.

All the local government sole administrators of the four local governments visited, testified to the general improvement of security in their domains, which they attributed to the unwavering support they enjoy from the state government.

They commended the governor and assured him of their unflinching support to the present administration to succeed at all times.

Other Speakers at the visit included an APC chieftain in the state, Umarun Kwabo, Member representing Sokoto North and South Federal Constituency, Bala Hassan and a former Deputy governor of Zamfara state, Hassan Nasiha, among others.
