Soyinka’s arrest: NIA DG resigned because he won’t help Tinubu violate Nigerians’ rights – Sowore

Activist politician, Omoyele Sowore, on Sunday said the Director General of the National Intelligence Agency, NIA, Ahmed Abubakar resigned over his unwillingness to carry out human rights violations and abuses planned by President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Sowore claimed that Abubakar helped former President Muhammadu Buhari to commit atrocities, such as the abduction of Biafra agitator, Nnamdi Kanu, among others.

He made the claim in response to the arrest of an investigative journalist, Adejuwon Soyinka.

The Department of State Services, DSS, had reportedly arrested Soyinka, the Regional Editor of The Conversation Africa.

Soyinka was picked up upon arrival at the Muritala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on Sunday, via a Virgin Atlantic flight from the United Kingdom.

Prior to Soyinka’s arrest, Abubakar had resigned his position as NIA DG citing personal and family reasons.

Abubakar submitted his resignation letter to Tinubu during a meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

After the meeting, Abubakar explained to journalists that his resignation was not due to any critical issues but rather personal and family matters.

“There are quite a number of reasons one will do that. Some personal family issues, but nothing very serious, actually, and the friendship will continue,” he said.

Reacting to the development in a message made available to DAILY POST, Sowore said: “Just one #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria revolt, @officialABAT and his goons squad have detained 2000 protesters, killed 40 peaceful protesters, injured many, including 27 journalists, abducted whistleblowers, raided the offices of @NLCHeadquarters and harassed members of their families.

“I think this is why the NIA DG resigned; having helped @mbuhari to commit several atrocities, including the abduction and extraordinary rendition of @MaziNnamdiKanu, he couldn’t continue with the scale of violations and abuse planned for Nigerian by the Tinubu regime. Or maybe he was just below par for the task ahead!

“The darkest days are here, but we MUST all roundly reject and RESIST. This is full-blown fascism. Let everyone take a position NOW. A #REVOLUTION is INEVITABLE at this point. #FearlessInOctober #RevolutionNow #freePIDOMNIGERIA #TakeItBack.”
