Sports Minister John Enoh Gives Update On Super Eagles Coaching Job

Nigeria’s Sports Minister John Enoh has confirmed that the appointment of a new coach for the Super Eagles is imminent.

In an interview on Politics Tonight on Channels TV, John Enoh assured that a new Super Eagles coach would be announced without further delay.

Note that the Super Eagles of Nigeria have been without a coach since Finidi George’s resignation in June following a disappointing performance in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. The former Enyimba coach, who is now in charge of Rivers United, recorded two draws and a defeat in the qualifiers before his exit.

With less than 30 days until the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualification tie against Benin Republic, football enthusiasts have no idea about who will handle the Super Eagles.

To calm the nerves of football fans, Enoh has expressed his eagerness for the appointment to be made promptly, especially in light of the upcoming AFCON qualifier on September 7.

“The appointment will be sooner rather than later,” the Sports Minister said.

John Enoh’s statement comes following the disappointment of Nigeria’s failure to secure a medal at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, France.

While several names, including Herve Renard, Eric Chelle, Samson Siasia, and Salisu Yusuf, have been associated with the coaching position, the Nigeria Football Federation has maintained secrecy around their selection process.
