Hundreds of non-teaching staff, comprising members of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities and Non-Academic Staff Association of Universities of the Federal University, Birnin Kebbi, on Tuesday, joined others in a nationwide protest which grounded academic activities in the university.
The protest led by the state chapter Chairman, Alhaji Aliyu Turaki, had all the university gates blocked disallowing the flow of human and vehicle traffic, thus halting all academic and administrative work in the university.
Protesters holding placards with different inscriptions chided the Tinubu-led government for intentionally reneging on pledges made to include payment of arrears of their withheld salaries, held by the Federal government during the nationwide strike of the body
“We gathered here to protest non-payment of our withheld salaries by the Federal government, despite several engagements to avoid going to the streets.
“We are calling on the Federal government to as a matter of urgency pay us our withheld salaries and meet our other demands “
On the next line of action after the protest, Turaki said the mother union would communicate further action.
He urged all his members to endure whatever it is to succeed in the struggle.
The joint protest was also attended by NASU Chairman, Hashima Abubakar and hundreds of their members as they both have similar demands.
Students and teaching staff were stranded as protesters ground academic and administrative activities in the University.
