Super Eagles Assistant Coach Speaks On Eguavoen’s Team Selection

Super Eagles assistant coach, Daniel Ogunmodede has expressed his confidence in the selection of players for the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Benin Republic and Rwanda.

Super Eagles caretaker coach Augustine Eguavoen has introduced some fresh talents, including Gabriel Osho and Victor Collins, to the squad. Umar Sadiq, the Real Sociedad striker, has also been brought back, despite facing challenges at his club in La Liga.

Ogunmodede acknowledged that even though some players, like Tolu Arokodare and Cyriel Dessers, have shown impressive form at their clubs, the coaching staff has put considerable thought into the roster.

“The head coach has presented a comprehensive list after discussions with the back-room staff, and we believe these players have the competence to represent our nation well”, Ogunmodede told NFF TV.

He added that while Osho is a new face due to prior injury and surgery, Sadiq and Collins bring valuable experience to the team.

Ogunmodede, who also serves as head coach of Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) club Remo Stars, emphasized that the team will approach each match like a cup final. “We plan to approach every match to win,” he said. “Our primary goal is to qualify, but we also strive to win every game, with a focus on securing the maximum points available.”

The Super Eagles will face the Cheetahs of Benin Republic for their matchday five encounter next Thursday, followed by a home game against the Amavubi of Rwanda on Monday, November 14, as they look to conclude their qualifying campaign on a strong note.

Currently leading Group D with 10 points from four matches, the Super Eagles require just one point from the next two games to secure a place in Morocco for the tournament in 2025.
