Super Eagles Drop 8 Places In FIFA Rankings

Nigeria’s Super Eagles dropped eight places in the latest men’s ranking for November released by the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) on its official website on Thursday.

The Augustine Eguavoen-led squad fell to 44th position from their previous 36th global ranking spot.

The Super Eagles also dropped from fourth to fifth position in Africa.

The decline may not be unconnected to the team’s underwhelming performance in their final qualifiers for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations where the West African side drew 1-1 against Benin Republic in Cote d’Ivoire and suffered 1-2 defeat to Rwanda in Uyo in the month of November.

Morocco maintained top position in Africa, with Senegal, Algeria and Egypt in second, third and fourth positions, respectively.

With the last FIFA rankings for 2024 billed to be released on 14 December, there is little hope of Nigeria moving up as the Eagles are inactive for the rest of the year.

Argentina, France, and Spain retained the top three positions, with England and Brazil rounding out the top five.
