Super Eagles of Nigeria goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has extended his contract with South African Premier Soccer League club Chippa United.

After establishing himself as Super Eagles’ first-choice goalkeeper during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), where Nigeria finished second, Stanley Nwabali became one of the most sought-after goalkeepers in Africa.

There were reports that clubs within Africa, Europe and Asia wanted to sign him this summer, but nothing concrete happened. Hence, he has to focus on his current club.

Earlier today, August 29, Chippa United announced via their official website that Stanley Nwabali has extended his contract with them. The 28-year-old Nigerian goalkeeper has committed to a new three-year deal and has also been appointed as the team’s new captain.

The club’s statement reads: “We are pleased to announce that Stanley Nwabali has signed an improved three-year contract with Chippa United FC.

“We are incredibly proud of Stanley’s dedication and commitment to the club. His leadership on and off the field has been exemplary, and we believe he is the right person to guide our team through the challenges ahead. With this being said Stanley will be our new team captain for the upcoming season.”

Note that Stanley Nwabali joined Chippa United from Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) club, Katsina United in 2022. He is expected to reunite with the Super Eagles of Nigeria in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state, on September 2, 2024, for the 2025 qualifiers against Benin Republic and Rwanda.
