Super Falcons Coach Randy Waldrum Resigns, Gives Reason

The Super Falcons of Nigeria head coach, Randy Waldrum, has resigned from his position to concentrate on his wife, who is currently battling an undisclosed sickness.

Recall that Randy Waldrum has been the head coach of the Super Falcons since 2020. The American tactician led the national team to a semi-final finish at the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

Some of his other outstanding feats as the coach of the Super Falcons include leading the team to the 2023 Women’s World Cup round of 16 without losing a game in the group stage.

Randy Waldrum’s Super Falcons conceded just two goals at the World Cup, which is the lowest in the history of the team. He also qualified the team for the 2024 Olympics for the first time in 16 years.

Despite the high expectations placed on them ahead of the Olympics, they failed to progress beyond the group stage after losing to Japan, Spain, and Brazil.

Even though they failed to win any game at the Olympics and the coach blamed the poor run on lack of proper preparation for the tournament, Waldrum was expected to continue his job as the Super Falcons coach.

Unfortunately, the American tactician said in his resignation letter dated September 12, 2024, that he has to resign due to the ill health of his wife.

The letter reads in part, “It’s been a very difficult few weeks following the Olympics, with my wife’s health issues, and the worries that obviously come with that. After much thought and consideration.

“I am hereby resigning my position as Head Coach of the Super Falcons. This will allow the NFF ample time to find the next manager to take over this incredible squad.”
