Suspected kidnapper killed in gun duel with Delta Police

A suspected kidnapper has reportedly died after a gun duel between his gang and the Police.

Other members of the criminal gang reportedly escaped the crime scene.

The suspect was reported to have died at a hospital from injuries he sustained during the gun duel.

The Police led by ASP Julius Robinson recovered from the suspect, two Beretta pistols and five rounds of live ammunition.

The incident occurred at about 23:47hrs of 20/06/2024 along the Edje Kota-Ogor Communities axis in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.

Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe confirmed the report in a statement signed and made available to Our Correspondent in Warri.

The Police Image maker said, “Acting on Credible Intelligence related to incessant cases of armed robbery/kidnapping along Edjekota – Ogor Communities axis of Ughelli North LGA of Delta State, at about 2347hrs of 20/06/2024, ASP Julius Robison and team on CPS’s special assignment in a sting operation stormed a criminal hideout along Ughelli – Patani road by an abandoned filling station, the hoodlums on sighting the Police opened fire on the team which was given a superior response by the police, in the ensuing gun duel, one of the hoodlums sustained serious gunshot injuries while others escaped.”

According to SP Edafe, “The injured suspect was taken to the hospital where he died while receiving treatment.”

He added that a manhunt for the fleeing suspects is ongoing.
