Suspended Abia Health Commissioner Resigns Amid Financial Misconduct Allegations

The suspended Abia State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ngozi Okoronkwo, has officially resigned from her position.

This development was confirmed by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Alex Otti, Mr Ukoha Njoku, in a statement released on Tuesday.

Governor Otti had previously suspended Dr. Okoronkwo on June 11, 2024, due to allegations of financial misconduct.

In addition to the suspension, the Governor established a committee to investigate these allegations thoroughly.

Governor Otti expressed his gratitude for Dr. Okoronkwo’s contributions to the state’s health sector, acknowledging her efforts in enhancing service delivery over the past year.

The statement from Mr. Njoku read: “The suspended Abia state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ngozi Okoronkwo, has tendered her resignation letter to the Executive Governor of Abia State, His Excellency, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR. The Governor, while accepting her resignation, thanked Dr Okoronkwo for her services to our dear State and her modest achievements in repositioning the Health Sector for better service delivery in the last year. He wished her well in her future endeavours.”

Otti also reiterated his commitment to transforming Abia State, emphasizing that his mandate includes the authority to hire, suspend, or dismiss his appointees as necessary to fulfil his promises to the people of Abia.

“The Governor reiterated his commitment to the transformation of Abia State and reminded Abians that they gave him the mandate to assemble his team, and this includes hiring, suspending or sacking his appointees or rejigging and reshuffling his cabinet whenever the need arises for the sole purpose of delivering all his promises to the people,” the statement added.
