The Taraba State Government has announced the temporary closure of the Danbaba Suntai Airport in Jalingo to facilitate ongoing upgrade works aimed at modernising the facility.

This is contained in a press statement released by the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Transportation Development, Kwantar Genesis, and made available to journalists in Jalingo on Friday.

According to the statement, the closure which was approved by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, takes effect immediately, with operations set to resume on December 20, 2024.

Kwantar said the closure was crucial to ensure the safe and timely completion of construction projects that began in January 2024.

“These include building drainage systems, constructing a perimeter fence, upgrading the Instrument Landing System, extending the runway from 2.4 kilometres to 3 kilometres, and acquiring two new fire tenders.

“This airport upgrade underscores the Taraba State Government’s commitment to improving transportation infrastructure. The enhanced facilities will not only benefit commuters within Taraba State but also strengthen connections to neighbouring states,” he stated.

Kwantar assured the public that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure the projects are completed as scheduled.

“We understand the inconvenience this temporary closure may cause, but we appeal to commuters to exercise patience.

“These efforts are ultimately for their benefit, as the upgraded airport will offer a safer and more efficient travel experience,” he added.
