At the Paris 2024 Paralympics, Team Nigeria secured a total of seven medals, marking the country’s performance as the lowest since its debut in 1992.

Team Nigeria finished in 40th position at the Paris 2024 Paralympics, with two gold, three silver, and two bronze medals.

One of the standout moments was when Folashade Oluwafemiayo set a new world record in the women’s over 86 kg para-powerlifting event by lifting 166 kg, a historic achievement that earned her a gold medal.

Before this, in the early stages of the event, Isau Ogunkunle secured a bronze medal in the Men’s Singles Class 4 Para Table Tennis event, making him the first Nigerian athlete to achieve an individual feat at the event since the Sydney 2000 Games.

Additionally, Bose Omolayo claimed a silver medal in the Women’s 79kg Para Powerlifting category, lifting an impressive 145kg, while Flora Ugwunwa impressed with a silver medal in the Women’s Javelin F54 category.

The team Nigeria’s performance in Paris represents a decline from previous outings. In their debut at the Barcelona Paralympics in 1992, Team Nigeria secured three gold medals.

In subsequent years, the team’s performance fluctuated, with peaks such as winning seven gold medals at Sydney 2000 and a standout performance at Rio 2016, where they achieved eight gold medals.

Tokyo 2020 saw a decline in the team’s success as they secured four gold medals, one silver, and five bronze medals. The recent two gold medals in Paris mark the lowest medal count for the country since Barcelona 1992.
