TEDS 2024: Innovators To Boost Nigeria’s Revenue Through Digital Technology

Nigerian Innovators have mapped out plans to host the second Technology Ecosystem Dialogue Summit Series (TEDS 2024) to drive critical conversations on leveraging digital technology to boost Nigeria’s revenue management and energy security.

The summit, which  will be hosted  between October 16 and 17, 2024 by Young Innovators of Nigeria (YIN) and the Network of Incubators and Innovators in Nigeria (NIINE)  is to celebrate the heroes, mark the 10th anniversary of YIN and the significant milestone for Nigeria’s tech industry.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Founder and CEO of the YIN, Matthew Abu, the Technology Ecosystem Dialogue aims to bring together key stakeholders from the tech industry, government, academia, finance and investment experts within the private and public sector to discuss and explore the pivotal role of digital technology in today’s society.

Abu noted that this summit aligns with national priorities and global best practices, aiming to integrate innovative technological solutions into Nigeria’s revenue management framework, promoting sustainable economic development and fiscal governance and stability.

“By fostering collaboration between public and private sectors, the TED Series seeks to drive digital transformation and strengthen Nigeria’s economic resilience,” he said.

Key features of the dialogue include exploring the integration of innovative technologies into Nigeria’s revenue systems, addressing issues like digital transformation in revenue collection, combating oil theft, and improving cybersecurity.

The event will also feature awards and recognition to honour outstanding contributions, including prizes for Hackathon winners, who will develop solutions for clean energy and climate change during the summit.

Dignitaries to receive the awards tagged “Heroes of the Tech Republics” drawn from public service, innovators, Investors, civil society and policy experts include; Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara for digitalization of Rivers state civil service and its huge investment in digital literacy and ICT certifications of staffers, which saw a significant increase in its IGR and positioning the state for e-governance.

Other awardees include Mr. Bosun Tijani, Minister for Communications Innovation and Digital Economy; National Commissioner of the Nigerian Data Protection Commission (NDPC) Dr. Vincent Olatunji; Director General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA),  Kashifu Inuwa; the Chief of Defence Staff,  Gen Musa;  Mr. Mitchell Elegbe, Group CEO of Interswitch Group among other notable Nigerians.

The summit will unveil “Tech Republic,” a comprehensive book documenting a decade of technological advancements in Nigeria, offering a roadmap for the future of tech in the country and Africa.

On this year’s Hackathon , the young innovators called on all innovators across Nigeria to conceive, develop and present innovative products along clean energy and climate change solutions, with submission deadline being September 30th, 2024

The event will be followed by YIN @10 dinner to celebrate a decade of innovation in honour of key contributors to Nigeria’s tech ecosystem.

Some of the sub themes include Digital Transformation in Revenue Collection; Data Analytics and Revenue Leakages’;Leveraging Technology to Combat Oil Theft and Boost Government Revenue in Nigeria (Tokenization of Nigeria Natural Resources).

Others include; Oil and Gas Stakeholders engagement in Investment initiatives (Role of PIA as a catalyst for tax and fiscal policy);  Unlocking Funding for Carbon Reduction Initiatives;  Data Protection and  Cybersecurity in Revenue Systems; E-Government Solutions for Revenue Efficiency  and Public-Private Partnerships in Revenue Technology.
