The Papers: 'Tory wipeout' and 'nothing sacred'

"Tory wipeout" reads the top story in the Daily Telegraph, citing its own exclusive opinion poll. The paper reports Rishi Sunak "is predicted to become the first sitting prime minister ever to lose their seat at a general election". An analysis piece says "Kemi [Badenoch] is the future of the party - but no one else survives this catastrophe".

The i paper's headline reads "Tories despair as poll signals worst defeat in 200 years". Citing a YouGov survey, it says the Conservatives "could be reduced to 108 seats", and that the party is losing support to Reform UK. The i adds that the 2028 general election "looks increasingly attractive to Boris Johnson".

The front page of the Times also reports on the YouGov survey about the Conservatives' prospects, saying they are "set to suffer worst poll defeat for 100 years". Like several other papers, the Times includes an image of Just Stop Oil activists spraying orange powder on Stonehenge.

The Daily Mail includes the same image of the Just Stop Oil activists, asking "Is nothing sacred to the eco clowns?" Towards the bottom, it says "3 polls raise fears of [Keir] Starmer supermajority", referring to the Labour Party leader.

The Daily Express follows suit and criticises the Just Stop Oil protesters, saying "Just lock them up!" The paper says their defacement of Stonehenge has "shown how pathetic they truly are".

Shadow chancellor Rachel Reeves "pledges to close gender pay gap 'once and for all' if Labour wins", the Guardian's top story reads. Lower down, there is an image of Russian President Vladimir Putin walking down a red carpet alongside North Korea's Kim Jong Un with the headline "Alarm as Kim and Putin sign mutual defence pact".

An image of Chancellor Jeremy Hunt dominates the front page of the Financial Times under the caption "Scarred by Truss. Hunt admits Tories still in recovery". The top story says "Sunak claims credit as inflation hits BoE [Bank of England] target for first time in 3 years", adding that Labour believes "prices still too high".

"Brave Leah fought to the end" the Metro's front page headline reads. The top story says teenager Leah Croucher "may have fought back" before she was "murdered by a sex offender".

The Euros are on the front page of the Daily Mirror. The headline reads "Kane the Danes" in reference to England's forthcoming match against Denmark, and says "50,000 fans join Prince William in Germany to roar on Three Lions".

The Daily Star's headline is "Desperately seeking", and the paper looks at "What singletons really want from new partner". An image of England footballer Jude Bellingham also makes the front page as the paper promotes a free Euros pullout.
