These Criminals Are Not Students – UNICAL Pro Chancellor Fingers Officials In Massive Certificate Forgery

The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the 14th Governing Council of the University of Calabar (UNICAL), DIG Udom Ekpoudom, has alleged that some officials of the school are behind the massive certificate fraud uncovered by the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

Naija News reported that the NYSC on Monday invalidated the certificates of 101 individuals who had previously been mobilized for service.

The affected individuals were fraudulently mobilized for national service by the University of Calabar (UNICAL) during the 2021, 2022, and 2023 service years.

The graduates include 99 illegally mobilised for national service, and two persons said to have been granted exemption certificates illegally.

This was made known by the NYSC Director of Information and Public Relations, Eddy Megwa.

He added that the move is part of efforts to sanitize the system and preserve the integrity of the NYSC scheme.

Reacting via a statement, Ekpoudom frowned at the discovery, stressing that investigations had commenced to uncover the perpetrators.

The Pro-Chancellor said that the ‘criminals’ were not students of the institution and vowed that any officials found culpable would be severely dealt with.

He said, “The NYSC has done very well to have uncovered this forgery. This is just the first phase. The next phase is for us to find out those behind this saga.

“I can confirm that the people are not students of UNICAL. These guys are criminals.”
