A tragic plane crash on Sunday in northeastern Slovenia has claimed the lives of three individuals.
Naija News gathered that the incident occurred near the village of Gančani in the Prekmurje region under heavy fog.
The ill-fated aircraft, a Cessna Skyhawk 172M, was on a scenic flight and had departed from Maribor Airport at 11:20 a.m., according to Robert Roudi of the Murska Sobota Police Department.
Reports indicate that the victims included two men, aged 30 and 33, from Beltinci, and a woman from the Štajerska region.
The flight was reportedly a birthday gift for one of the passengers, with a planned round-trip route from Maribor to Lendava.
The Slovenia Times revealed that investigators are still working to confirm the exact number of individuals aboard and their identities.
A police spokesperson stated, “The examination of the crash site is still underway, and identities will be confirmed once it is completed.”
An investigating judge, prosecutor, aviation inspector, forensic expert, and police officers are currently examining the scene.
The plane, owned by the Maribor Aviation Centre, took off in clear conditions but encountered dense fog in the Prekmurje region, which is suspected to have contributed to the accident. All those on board were confirmed dead.
