Tinubu directs Ahmadu to resign as BPP director-general

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), Mamman Ahmadu, to resign.

Spokesperson to the president Ajuri Ngelale in a statement, said the move is part of a broader effort to reorganise the public procurement system and enhance its efficiency and transparency.

Ahmadu is expected to hand over to the most senior officer in the Bureau, pending the appointment of a new Director-General.

“President Bola Tinubu has directed the resignation of Mr. Mamman Ahmadu from office as the Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP),” the statement read.

“This is part of a larger reorganization effort in the public procurement system to reposition the agency for greater efficiency and transparency.

“The Director-General is to hand over to the most senior officer in the Bureau, pending the appointment of a new Director-General.

“The President thanks Mr. Ahmadu for his services and wishes him success in his future endeavours.”

Meanwhile, President Tinubu has approved the appointment of Ayodeji Gbeleyi as the new Director-General of the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE).

Gbeleyi’s appointment was announced by the Statehouse Office in Abuja through an official press release today (Saturday).

The appointment marks an important step in Tinubu’s administration’s ongoing efforts to foster a competitive, private sector-driven economy.

Tinubu expressed his confidence in the new appointee’s ability to leverage his extensive expertise to enhance the Bureau’s functions.

He anticipates that his leadership will bolster the BPE’s role as a national resource centre for capacity building and sustaining reforms.

This includes promoting a competitive private sector, ensuring social accountability, efficiently deploying public resources, and advancing corporate governance and fiduciary discipline in both the public and private sectors.

Established under the Public Enterprises (Privatization and Commercialization) Act of 1999, the BPE is saddled with the responsibility of the implementation of policies and programs related to the privatization and commercialization of public enterprises.
