President Bola Tinubu has extended warm congratulations to the Oba of Benin, Ewuare II, as he marks his 71st birthday on October 20 which commemorated the eighth anniversary of his ascension to the revered throne of his ancestors.

In a statement released by the Special Adviser to the President, Bayo Onanuga on Saturday, Tinubu lauded the reign of the 40th Oba of Benin, noting that since his coronation in 2016, Oba Ewuare II has ushered in a new era of peace, understanding and civility among the people of Benin Kingdom.

The President highlighted the monarch’s distinguished career in diplomacy which had influenced his leadership.

Prior to his ascension, Oba Ewuare II, served as Nigeria’s Ambassador to several countries, including Angola, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, and Italy.

Tinubu commended how this diplomatic experience has contributed to the Oba’s ability to lead with wisdom and grace.

He also praised the monarch’s steadfast commitment to preserving the rich cultural heritage and traditions of the Benin Kingdom.

He specifically acknowledged Oba Ewuare’s tireless efforts to recover priceless artefacts which he said are essential symbols of the Kingdom’s history and identity.

The President noted that these cultural preservation initiatives have fostered a deeper sense of pride and connection among those who shared in the Benin Kingdom’s legacy.

“His courage and unwavering commitment to preserving his domain’s rich cultural heritage and tradition is commendable. The King’s relentless efforts and exploration of international networks to return priceless and timeless artefacts reflect his love for his people,” Tinubu said.

The President also appreciated Oba Ewuare II’s wise counsel to leaders in both the private and public sectors as well as his advocacy for participatory democracy and development.

Tinubu emphasised that the monarch’s consistent promotion of civic responsibility and active democratic participation continued to inspire hope for a brighter future.

Offering prayers for the Oba, his family, and the entire Benin Kingdom, President Tinubu wished the monarch continued prosperity and good health, stating, “May the Kingdom continue to prosper under the wise and benevolent leadership of Ewuare II, and may he and his family be blessed with health and happiness.”
