The Muri/Sam Campaign Council of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, to remove the Kogi State Commissioner of Police (CP), Bertran Unuoha, due to the escalating insecurity in the state.
Director of New Media/Spokesperson of Muri/Sanu Campaign Council, Isaiah Davies Ijele, disclosed this in Abuja, during a briefing, he emphasised the urgency of addressing the security challenges in Kogi State.
He said that the state is becoming a den of robbers, kidnapping, and other vices and the CP is not doing anything about it, but only acts when it comes to political issues.
He said: “We demand for immediate removal of a CP, Bertran Unuoha. And we demand again for the Supreme Court to ask him where is the source of his information.
“Is he now the Supreme Court judge? Is he now the Chief Justice of Nigeria or Attorney General? Who gave him the information, has he constituted a panel that we don’t know? Is there any Supreme Court that we don’t know? I think Bertran Onuoha needs to respond to Nigerians and Kogi at large.”
Ijele also questioned the statement credited to the CP where he raised concern over the forthcoming Supreme Court judgement in Kogi state.
Ijele added, “The director general of the government house is from Okene, which has produced three commissioners. while other local governments have none. The second biggest local government in Kogiste have not produced a single commissioner.
“It is imperative that we look into this affair and don’t hand over Bello, EFCC are looking for Bello, they can never get Beno unless justice is given to the people of Kogiste. He will continue to rule in government house and it will be extended to other states. Other governments are listening.
“If you embezzle money and government wants to go after you, put your son there because they are doing it in Kogi. If it succeeds, which I believe it will not start, but if they allow you to stand, trust me, every governor in Nigeria will follow suit.”
In his remarks, a member of the campaign, Tijani Julius, accused Bello of reducing the EFCC’s effectiveness to a mere shadow of its former self.
“Yahaya Bello has diminished the EFCC’s efforts. We need to ask the President if he has forgotten the insults Bello directed at him during the presidential election.
“What is preventing them from taking action against Bello now? After eight years, he is still in the government house, and they claim not to know his whereabouts?”
