Tinubu mourns abducted Sokoto monarch killed by bandits

President Bola Tinubu has condemned the tragic circumstances leading to the death of the District Head of Gatawa District in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State, Isa Bawa.

Tinubu described “the savage attack on the traditional ruler as deeply disturbing and a heinous act that will not go without a decisive response.”

The President extended his condolences to the bereaved family, the Gobir Emirate, and the government of Sokoto State.

This is contained in a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, on Wednesday.

The President prayed for the repose of the soul of the traditional ruler and comfort for his family at this difficult time.

Tinubu assured Nigerians that his administration “is aggressively removing threats to ensure the security of the nation and that these desperate acts of terror will be effectively countered.”

Before his death, Bawa had called on the state government as well as well-wishers to come to his rescue.

The district head was kidnapped alongside his son, brother and six others along Sokoto – Sabon Birni Road about 22 days ago.

In a 59-second video trending on social media on Saturday and obtained by our correspondent, the 74-year-old monarch appealed for his release from the hands of his abductors.

He said, “I  want to call on my people, my lovers, my friends and my leader to know that it has gotten to the end today, Wednesday.
