The Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, has called on the House of Representatives Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development to present any evidence of corruption against her in a court of law.

This challenge was issued in a statement by her aide, Musa Abdulrahaman, on Thursday in Abuja. The minister emphasized that all financial transactions within her Ministry adhere to established civil service regulations.

The call for evidence follows allegations raised by the committee, chaired by Kafilat Ogbara, concerning the alleged diversion of ₦1.5 billion meant for contractor payments. Contractors had petitioned the committee, claiming non-payment for services rendered to the Ministry.

Naija News reports that during a contentious hearing on Tuesday, the minister and committee members had a heated exchange regarding the allegations.

According to Abdulrahaman’s statement, Kennedy-Ohanenye provided comprehensive documentation to counter the claims of financial mismanagement.

The statement partly read, “The Federal Ministry of Women Affairs ensures that all payments for programs and projects are meticulously authorized following established civil service regulations.

“The approval process involves the Director of Finance and Accounts, with final assent by the Permanent Secretary, the Ministry’s accounting officer.

“Barr. Ohanenye has decided to abstain from making remarks or comments on this issue as she has filed a lawsuit (Suit No.E 500/2024) against Hon. Kafilat Ogbara for libel and defamation.

“In the spirit of due process, the Minister encourages the presentation of any evidence or proof by the Committee or Whosoever of alleged misappropriation in the court of law.

Kennedy-Ohanenye reiterated her commitment to prudent use of the Ministry’s resources, stating, “As long as I am the Minister of Women Affairs, I will continue to use the resources judiciously for the benefit of Nigerian women and children.

“There will be no room for financial recklessness or misappropriation of resources. Every training will be backed up with sustainable empowerment.”
