President Bola Tinubu will travel to France on Monday, August 19, departing from Abuja, the nation’s capital, for a brief work stay.

This was revealed in a statement by the president’s spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale.

According to him, the president will return to the country after his brief work stay in France.

Tinubu recently returned from a trip to Guinea, the seventh African state he has visited and his 22nd foreign destination since assuming office about 15 months ago.

So far, Tinubu has visited Paris, France (three times); London, the United Kingdom (twice); Bissau, Guinea-Bissau (twice); Nairobi, Kenya; Porto-Novo, Benin Republic; Pretoria, South Africa; Accra, Ghana; New Delhi, India; Abu Dhabi and Dubai in the United Arab Emirates; New York, the United States of America; Riyadh, Saudi Arabia (twice); Berlin, Germany; Addis Ababa, Ethiopia; Dakar, Senegal; and Doha, Qatar.

Meanwhile, the trip will be one of President Tinubu’s many visits to France since he assumed office in May 2023. Recall that in June 2023, the president joined world leaders in Paris to review and sign a New Global Financial Pact that places vulnerable countries on a priority list for support and investment, following the devastating impacts of climate change, the energy crisis, and the aftereffects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Tinubu participated in the two-day summit, which looked at opportunities to restore fiscal space to countries facing difficult short-term financial challenges, especially the most indebted; mobilise innovative financing for countries vulnerable to climate change; foster development in low-income countries; and encourage investment in “green” infrastructure for the energy transition in emerging and developing economies.
