The current women’s 100m hurdles world record holder, Tobi Amusan, is setting her sights on securing a medal at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

Tobi Amusan’s determination comes after missing out on podium finishes in the previous two editions of the Games in Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020.

The 27-year-old expressed her confidence after comfortably qualifying for the semifinals and clocking an impressive time of 12.49s at the 2024 Olympics, leaving her American competitor Alaysha Johnson trailing at 12.61s and Janeek Brown at 12.84s.

Amusan, fueled by her successful first-round race, conveyed her optimism for the upcoming Olympic event, stating, “The first time I came as an Olympian, I was like 18/19; the second time, I think I was a little bit experienced, and I didn’t get on the podium. This time I think, it’s my season.”

Note that Tobi Amusan has now qualified for three consecutive semifinals at the Olympics.

In another compelling display, Samuel Ogazi overcame formidable challenges in the 400m semis to secure a spot in the final.

Ogazi highlighted that making it to the final and ranking among the top 8 athletes internationally marks a significant personal and national achievement for him and Nigeria.

Note that Ogazi is the first Nigerian athlete in 36 years to qualify for the 400m final at the Olympics.

Meanwhile, Nigerian cyclist Ese Ukpeseraye faced a tough challenge in the Women’s Keirin Track Cycling event as she finished 6th in heat 1, clocking a time of 13.108.

This meant that she missed out on an automatic spot in the quarterfinals. Nonetheless, she still has an opportunity to progress as she will compete in the Repechage round.

Note that Ukpeseraye is the first Nigerian athlete ever to compete in cycling at the Olympic Games, demonstrating her trailblazing impact on Nigerian sports history.
