The European football governing body, UEFA released the latest European club rankings earlier today, July 12, 2024.

According to the club rankings released by UEFA, Manchester City are the best side in Europe even though they lost the UEFA Champions League title to Real Madrid last season.

Recall that they won the Champions League title in the 2022-2023 season for the first time in the history of the club but they failed to build on the success in the following season. However, they finished the season with a record fourth Premier League title in a row.

Even though Real Madrid beat Manchester City to the UCL title and also won the Spanish La Liga title, they are ranked behind the Premier League champions.

Note that the UEFA club rankings (UEFA club coefficients) are arrived at based on the performance of the teams in European club competitions in the last five seasons.

UEFA uses the club rankings to sort out how the clubs are seeded ahead of draws for European club competitions.

Interestingly, Bayern Munich who ended last season without any title, are ranked third on the UEFA club rankings. Recall that Bayer Leverkusen broke their Bundesliga title-winning streak during the last campaign.

Based on the performance of Roma in European competitions in the last five years, they are currently ranked in the top five behind 4th placed Liverpool.
